Tucked between the mighty Zambezi and the rolling Limpopo River, Zimbabwe is best known for the magnificent spectacle of the Victoria Falls.

Zimbabwe derives its name from the spectacular stone structures of the Great Zimbabwe ruins, a World Heritage Site with a mysterious origin. The country is home to another four World Heritage sites, including the rugged granite outcrops of the Matobo Hills, the spectacular conservation area of Mana Pools and the magnificent Victoria Falls.

The world’s largest man-made reservoir, the vast waters of Lake Kariba are home to the fierce tiger fish, renowned among avid anglers, while herds of wildlife wander its shores.

Hwange National Park

Zimbabwe’s largest national park, the elephant stronghold of Hwange is a game-rich area roughly the size of the Bahamas that was once the royal hunting grounds of the Ndebele warrior king Mzilikazi. It was proclaimed a national park in 1929. Here, guests can explore a variety of landscapes, from desert sands and sparse woodland to grasslands and rocky outcrops. Vast herds of elephant and buffalo, gemsbok and clans of brown hyena can be found in this pristine slice of wilderness, which also boasts one of the largest surviving populations of African wild dog.

Mana Pools National Park

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mana Pools offers a truly remote and rugged wilderness experience. Here, visitors to the park can encounter a plethora of wildlife that ranges from large mammals to over 350 bird species. Meaning “four” in the local Shona language, Mana refers to the park’s four large pools that are vestiges of ancient ox-bow lakes carved out by the mighty Zambezi. Situated in the middle of the Zambezi Valley, the Mana Pools National Park offers the incredible opportunity to embark on expertly guided canoe trails.

Victoria Falls

A World Heritage Site, Victoria Falls is one of the world’s greatest natural spectacles and the stuff of legends, romance and myth. Long before the Scottish missionary and explorer Dr David Livingstone ‘discovered’ the Victoria Falls in 1855, the local Batonga people had named them Mosi-oa-Tunya, ‘the smoke that thunders’. Livingstone had named the Falls after his queen. Today, the town rightly claims the title of Adrenaline Capital of Africa, home to a seemingly endless variety of adventure sports from bungee jumping to canoeing and white water rafting.
