An exclusive safari haven on a bend of the Sand River

The spirit of Tengile River Lodge

Meaning “tranquil” in the local Tsonga language, Tengile River Lodge is situated in a serene setting, on a bend of the Sand River. Here, elegant interiors are complimented by exquisite modern finishes, and inviting, intimate spaces encourage a sense solitude whilst pockets of open space are designed for group gatherings.

Built with an extremely light footprint, Tengile will feature nine suites that are raised above ground level to give the impression that they are floating over the riverbed, providing exceptional views from the dappled shade of a cool riverine forest. The spacious suites will offer sunken lounges, elegant bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms (with indoor and al fresco showers) that open out into the forest, creating private spaces in the open air.

Following the curve of the river bank, each area of the lodge will offer magnificent river views. A beautiful massage and gym area offer a haven of tranquillity where guests can spend the entire day relaxing in between game drives.

Sustainability lies at the heart of the new lodge’s form and function. Environmentally friendly construction materials have been selected with durability in mind. Automation is being put into place to reduce the use of electricity and the use of solar power has been combined with various procedures designed to increase efficiency both during the build phase and after.

Why we love it
  • Sip artfully crafted cocktails and delight in exclusive wine pairings. Enchant your taste buds with warmly prepared farm to table cuisine, with our organic and homemade philosophy permeating our approach to all things edible, awakening the palate to a variety of textures, tastes, and flavours.
  • Go ‘Beyond the expected’ with a safari theatre experience. Led by the most experienced guides, delight in morning bush coffee rendezvous and evening sundowner drinks and food offerings. You can expect a perfectly made cappuccino or cocktail, frothed and shaken (or stirred!) on your game drives.
  • Connect with nature with twice-daily game drives, interpretive bush walks, the river view from all the suites, and that of the extensive viewing deck.
  • Be captivated with spectacular close encounters and breathtaking sightings of leopard and other wildlife in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve.
  • Engage with the locals on wonderful community visits. Your heart will burst with the joys of laughing children, teachers who are preparing future leaders and the welcome of diverse communities and cultures.
  • Rest assured that our ecological footprint is as minimal as possible. Our sustainability elements in the lodge design include thermal efficiency, state-of-the-art wastewater and sewer treatment systems. Strict vehicle limits at game sightings ensure the exclusivity of the wildlife experiences.
